DecoratingGrayWinter comes with a lot of gray—overcast days, plenty of clouds, and even the “occasional” snowstorm. But gray doesn’t have to be dull and boring. In fact, it’s a very universal color that works well with many styles, themes and tones. And with spring almost here, we’ve got some pointers to help brighten up your home in a great, gray way.

First off, you’ll want to find the perfect shade of gray to flatter your existing home décor. The Pantone color guide is great way to find the right shade for any color. Remember that gray can come in many different forms with some shades being warmer or cooler than others.

Some shades can even take on the color of its surroundings. For example, some grays can start to take on a lavender hue in the right setting, while other grays can take on a warm buttery tone.

If you choose to keep the colors low key and all within the same color family, be sure to add in plenty of patterns and designs to compensate for using only one color family. A great way to add something fun to an all gray room is with festive prints like zebra, paisley, chevron or even Rorschach. Look for accent pieces like throw pillows, blankets, and wall art to show off these decorative patterns.

Going for a bolder look?

Try adding pops of color to the room to really bring out the different shades of gray. Light coral accent pillows and throw blankets bring a whimsical feel to any gray bedroom. To spruce up your living room, toss a bright yellow chair or ottoman into the mix. Yellow and gray create for an inviting space without making the room too dull.

For a super sophisticated look, invest in some chic turquoise window treatments and wall art. Just make sure the shade of gray you’ve chosen equally compliments the pops of color you add to the room!
