Menswear might seem stable, non changing. Perhaps a tweak here or button there, a tie gets skinnier, wider, sweaters appear in slightly different hues. But there was a bit of a game-changer on the spring men’s runways. Prada, among others, showed golf-style shoes as street wear -- fringe and all. True, that light multi pastel or even rhinestone versions might be a bit too much for most men, but other versions seem quite wearable, and add a bit of sporty, collegiate fun to the season.
“Every guy can pull off this trend in either two-tone or solid colors,” says Las Vegas wardrobe stylist and fashion expert Lauren Schugar. “But, this is definitely a more casual look and not a high powered law office style.”
Though Prada’s version was done with bright yellow, orange, and blue or pink pastel accents, more approachable versions include saddle shoes in muted yellow or sky blue. The shoes work in either suede or leather, with a slight lift in the sole via colorful cork or rubber. Yes, it’s a bit of a fashion risk but if the rest of the ensemble is subdued, it’s a fun change.
Schugar further suggests feeling “free to pair the golf-style shoe with a good pair of argyle socks to complete the prep-ster golf look.”
